Sarah Ritcheson,
Graduate Student Assistant

Originally from Illinois, Sarah obtained her BA in English from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in May of 2009. As an undergraduate, she worked as a teacher with AmeriCorps and as a writing center tutor. She came to Miami in the fall of 2009 to pursue a PhD in English. Her foci are sixteenth and seventeenth century English literature and history, literary theory and gender studies. Her current research interests focus on seventeenth-century female authorship. A teaching assistant in the department of English at UM, she has worked as a tutor in the Writing Center and has taught Freshman Composition courses. Sarah also served as President of the Graduate Student Association during the 2010-2011 academic year and has served on several committees representing the graduate student population. In addition to her academic pursuits and interests, she is passionate about advocating for human and civil rights, especially in regard to discriminatory practices based on gender and sexual orientation.
